My 5 Favourite…Kids Being Kids

Five Favourites

An occasional consideration for some wedding couples is whether to have a child-free wedding or not. Of course, this is always a personal choice for the couple involved but there’s no denying, from a wedding photojournalism perspective, children do present some fantastic photo opportunities.  So I do love it when children are at weddings – it just gives me more moments, emotions and expressions to capture for your unique wedding story.

So here are 5 of my favourite photos of kids being kids at previous weddings.

#1 The Princess Flower Girl

Old Ship Inn Brighton wedding photography of the bride watching as her daughter shows off her pretty dress.

I just love how the flower girl admires her pretty dress with a spontaneous twirl, during the bridal preparations for Gemma and Rich’s wedding at the Old Ship Hotel in Brighton, East Sussex. Kids do produce these fleeting little moments in-between the bigger moments and as a wedding photojournalist I love to document them as part of the bigger wedding story.

#2 The Unimpressed Boy

Rowton Castle wedding photography of a young boy watching the wedding singer entertain guests during the evening reception

This perennial favourite I have talked about before in my Why I Love This Image series, but it captures such a classic moment as he watches on unimpressed as the wedding singer belts out a beautiful torch song at Kara and Jasons wedding at Rowton Castle in Shropshire.  Because kids are less guarded of their expressions and emotions it means they do present some really natural and amusing moments for the wedding story.

#3  Your Hat is Much More FunNorthamptonshire wedding photographer captures a flower gil playing with the hat of the mother of the bride during the wedding toasts and speeches at Grendon Lakes, Northamptonshire

It’s speeches time at Hollie and Dan’s wedding at Grendon Lakes in Northamptonshire and the flower girl, sat at the head table, decides there’s much more fun in yanking down her grandmother’s hat than listening to all those boring words and toasts!  You just couldn’t fake or pose a genuine wedding moment like this and its the perfect demonstration of the natural power of a wedding photojournalism approach.

#4 Yuk! Being Kissed By The Bride!

Rowton Castle Wedding Photography Shropshire

Let’s face it, young boys of a certain age hate being kissed by girls…even by beautiful brides!  This is a classic moment from Maria and Pete’s wedding, another at Rowton Castle in Shropshire. Whilst the bride is having adjustments made to her dress during the evening reception, she leans forward to kiss this adorably cheeky young guest…and clearly it’s not something he wanted to happen! Children do create such natural storytelling moments at weddings.

#5  The Fun of the Dance Floor

Holiday Inn Brighton wedding photography of children playing on the dancefloor, during the evening wedding reception.

Dance floors are for dancing, right?  Wrong!  Not when a polished, empty dance floor is just perfect for sliding across…as is happening here at Steph and Dan’s wedding the Holiday Inn in Brighton, East Sussex.  That’s the great thing about kids, they’ll turn any opportunity into a playground…and who can blame them!  After all, it does make for fun wedding photography!

Of course, there are so many other photos of kids being kids photos I could have chosen, so I’d encourage you to look through my other real wedding stories if you’d like to see more.

If you are getting married and enjoyed my natural, relaxed and unobtrusive approach to capturing wedding stories then I’d love to chat with you about your wedding plans.  You can either call me on 07920 422144 or simply send me a message via my contact page with details of your wedding. 1. I love it when I see a new post from you pop up, it just make me more excited to see what you capture on our wedding day (6 weeks tomorrow eeeeek)! And one of the biggest things for me is the photos of the children- with 4 page boys and 2 flower girls, as well as other little ones coming to the day and evening, I am sure you will capture some amazing photos. I am especially looking forward to seeing the photos of our own little boy who will be central to everything- I’m even going to have a special dance with him 🙂 your work is beautiful and I am so so excited for you to capture our day xx

    1. Thank you Amy – I’m glad you liked the post. I’m definitely looking forward to getting going on your unique wedding story in April 🙂
