I previously shot Andrea and Nick’s Nigerian Wedding Blessing at St Anselm’s church in Tooting Bec in the London Borough of Wandsworth . So as a Wandsworth wedding photographer it was great to be back there again a week or so later for their formal wedding day, before moving on to Wandsworth Town Hall for the evening celebrations.
Bridal Preparations in Thornton Heath
Having previously shot Andrea and Nick’s Nigerian blessing I knew it was going to be another fun and colourful wedding, especially given Nick and his family are Scottish and would be wearing traditional kilts and attire too. Mixed with the colour of traditional Nigerian wedding costumes would be a fantastic mix of cultures and riotous colours!
The day for me started at Andrea’s parents house in Thornton Heath, whilst Steve my 2nd photographer covered Nick getting ready at their home in Tooting. Given that Thornton Heath is just up the road from where I live in Wallington, it was a nice local trip.
It would be fair to say that Andrea was an extremely excited bride when I first arrived at the family home – and that is just great from my perspective. You just know the day is going to be full of laughter, excitement and emotion – all things perfect for me to record as a documentary wedding photographer.
With a large bridal party the bridal preparations were already underway and there was lots going on around the house. The sunshine was glorious and the garden was a virtual sun trap, so some of the bridal party managed to soak that up.
St Anselm’s Church Wedding Ceremony
The service took place in St Anselm’s, a large and beautiful church, right in the heart of busy Tooting Bec. One side of the congregation was packed with traditional Nigerian wedding outfits, whilst on the other side were the traditional kilts. It was certainly a spectacle to behold inside the more traditional and somber interior of the catholic church.
Andrea looked absolutely stunning and Nick made for a dashing and dapper groom throughout the ceremony. Of course there were lots of smiles, tears and happiness. It was then into a separate ante room, full of small nik-naks, for the witnessing and signing of registers and the formal wedding documentation.
Wandsworth Town Hall Wedding Reception
After the traditional portraits in the shaded gardens of St Anselm;s it was then across Wandsworth to the impressive Wandsworth Town Hall for the wedding reception. As a Wandsworth wedding photographer it’s the first time I’d had an opportunity to shoot a wedding inside the impressive civic building, so I was really looking forward to it.
With a large hallway, complete with classical pillars, a wide sweeping staircase, oil paintings adorning the walls and glittering chandeliers hanging from high ceilings it really is a fantastic wedding venue in Wandsworth. Definitely a suitable backdrop for any London wedding.
The wedding breakfast started with both families coming in to traditional Nigerian and Scottish music – yes complete with bagpipes. This theme carried on throughout the evening – a literal wedding festival of colour as guests danced to Nigerian beats and Scottish flings.
Wandsworth Wedding Photographer
As a wedding photojournalist it was an absolute pleasure to document Andrea and Nick’s Wandsworth wedding. There wasn’t a dull moment at all – not that I expected there to be after their earlier blessing. I count myself honoured and privileged to have been asked to document the genuine moments, real emotions and true stories of their wedding story.
I’m sure you’ll agree from a small selection of photos, they had a most fanatic wedding day in Wandsworth.
